The Impact

DATA-DRIVEN HEALTHCARE DECISIONS!

Bringing custom dashboards to optimize hospital performance, resource planning, and patient accessibility.

The Client

PKCS is a French consulting firm specializing in the collection and analysis of public and private medical and medico-economic data. The firm provides decision-making tools, strategic consulting for healthcare institutions, in-depth medico-economic analyses, as well as benchmarking to support hospital performance.

The Challenge

Initially, PKCS presented hospital data in static PowerPoint reports, limiting flexibility and interactivity. To overcome this, they developed their own tool, Pilote Hôpital, to centralize and cross-analyze key healthcare data, including PMSI, HR, and administrative records. They needed, however, a powerful analytics module to enhance real-time data access and visualization. Ensuring seamless, fast, and customizable decision-making tools became a crucial challenge, especially for analyzing complex patterns like patient mobility and hospital accessibility.

The Solution

PKCS integrated icCube as the analytics module within Pilote Hôpital, enabling dynamic dashboards, advanced slice and dicing capabilities, interactive pivot tables, and real-time decision support. With its in-memory processing, users can quickly access and analyze complex datasets, such as patient flows, resource allocation, and financial forecasting. A key example is the ability to map how far patients travel to see a given specialist—whether in kilometers or estimated travel time—helping hospitals optimize resource distribution and accessibility.

Pilote Hôpital enhances data analysis capabilities by:

  • Analyzing PMSI (a national hospital discharge database) and SAE (annual survey of hospital resources and activities) databases: Providing insights into hospital activities and resources.
  • Offering at-a-glance KPIs: Based on SAE data, including bed counts and classifications, with drill-down capabilities into national base classifications, e.g. surgery.
  • Strategic positioning in MCO (medical, surgical, and obstetrics services): Allowing selection and display of market shares for establishments.
  • Assessing zones of attractiveness: Utilizing the FHF (French Hospital Federation)  methodology to determine hospital reach.
  • Evaluating physician density: Analyzing the distribution of medical professionals.
  • Considering socio-professional categories: Understanding patient demographics.
  • Handling large volumes of data: Enabling analysis of market shares and their evolution over time, with powerful slice-and-dice functionality by care category.
“We have been using icCube for years to perform specialized health care analysis. It was very easy to integrate with our existing solution and I cannot overstate the quality of support from icCube’s staff.”
